Join USCF

If you play in the Championship section you must be a USCF member. Other sections do not require USCF membership, although we recommend joining USCF for its many benefits.

WHSCA recommends you join USCF online at home before you arrive at the tournament. The tournament directors will need to confirm your USCF ID number as current, so bring your USCF ID number to check-in.

Awards

Winner of the Championship Section receives the title of High School Champion of the State of Washington. The state champion will receive $1,000 of monetary support from the Washington High School Chess Association and may receive some additional funds from the Washington Chess Federation to attend the Arnold Denker Tournament of High School State Champions.

An appropriate number of trophies will be awarded to individuals in each section. Players that score at least 3.5, but do not place high enough to earn a trophy, will be awarded a chess medal.

Note: Ties for first place in the Championship Section will be resolved later in the year by a G/90 playoff game.
If there is a tie for first place in the Premier or Reserve Section, it will be resolved in a speed chess playoff (game in 3 minutes with a 2 second delay).
