Northwest Scholastic Rating System
This page contains the NWSRS ratings for Scholastic year 2007-2008 and
is current through 7/4/08.
Please advise any tournament director of any changes in school or grades codes
when you register for a tournament. Alternatively, notices of
school changes can also be sent to Kirk Winges at wa_ratings@nwsrs.org via
e-mail.
A note about USCF ratings and adjustments: We will continue Ollie's
practice of updating NWSRS ratings to match USCF ratings if 1) the USCF rating
is established (i.e.; no rating adjustment is made based on USCF provisional
ratings), and 2) the USCF rating is higher than the NWSRS rating. All ratings were
adjusted following this policy in July of 2008. For more than you
ever wanted to know about our rating system, see:

Discussion of the NWSRS Ratings System
The expansion of the WSRS to the NWSRS in the summer of 2005 was done to
both to allow room for Oregon, BC and Idhao players, as well as to add room
for more Washington players. There is a discussion of this expansion here:

Questions about School Codes? See Allcodes
list
(note you can save this file directly
from your browser as an allcodes.txt file for the AWARDS program).
By request of
WECC, we are now providing the allcodes file in a comma-separated-value or .csv
format. You can get that right here ==> Allcodes in csv fomrat
MORE COOL STUFF. Our friends up north have implemented a cool searchable database for the
NWSRS. You can quickly search the NWSRS listings to find players by name or other stats.
Jay Zhao, the BC K-12 computer guru, clearly knows a lot more than I about webpage design
and tools. Check it out. You will like it.
Jay's Cool Search Engine
While we're on the subject of people who know more about web design than me,
Signup4Chess also has a cool search engine designed to work with the NWSRS database. It
allows you to quickly find the top players in each grade in each state/province. Check it
out at:

TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS:
A new utility was added on 3-14-07 called changes.exe that makes it easy to find
changes you might have made to school codes, name spellings, grade codes or even new
school codes you made up. You are not required to run this program before submitting
your results, but you are required to document any changes you make in a separate note
or e-mail to me. This program just makes it easier to find the changes you did make.
A number of you have asked me for the ratings database in Excel format
that shows the full ratings database with all the extra fields that are
not in the .dta format. I've decided to post it to the website in zipped
format. Ratings In Excel Format (zipped)
Attention TD's -- Registration Program is now Available as a replacement
for the old SwissMix program. There are three versions of the registration
program available in this file. See the ReadMe.txt file for the details.
The program has gone past the point of being an
alternative to SwissMix and is now the main option (I'm not sure SwissMix will work
with the expanded ratings database). This file also includes the latest ratings database
in ASCII text format, as it is stored in my master computer. This ASCII text
file is regularly updated everytime the ratings change. By downloading this .zip
file you will also be assured of getting any updates to the registration program
as well as the latest ratings. Also, the Awards program has been re-written to work
with the newer versions of SwissSys and with the larger allcodes list. The new Awards
program is also contained in this .zip file along with a readme to explain it.
The latest ratings file: TDdata.zip.
For more information on the new registration program, see here: New Registration Program
